Does Your "Energy" Affect Those Around You.

Many years ago a manager where I worked, didn't really know him except in "passing', told me, "I'm waiting for the time you have a bad day." We were in the break room at work. I really only knew him from meetings and the occasional meeting in the break room.
I wasn't exactly sure what he meant by that so I asked him. He told me, "You're always so optimistic, outgoing and positive. Always helping - I'm waiting for the day you're not." Guess what? I'd say he is still waiting.
This post will discuss Change and Fear. These two topics almost always go hand-in-hand. First, let's address Change. What is Change? The Oxford dictionary defines change as "Make or become different." My definition of change is a bit broader. I define change as, "An event or series of events, that has the potential to cause one to do something different or differently, or impact one's mental attitude."
Change takes many forms, it could be a new job, a new spouse, children, disaster - anything. Anything that alters your normal routine.
Socrates wrote, "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new."
Dealing With Change
Change in and of itself is neutral. It is neither good nor bad - it just is. The effects of change can have a positive or a negative effect on you, as well as those around you.
How well you cope (or how much it effect you) when you experience change is tempered by how ready for change you are.
My intent is to bring awareness and to help empower you to handle whatever challenges (Change-Fear) you may encounter.
Change & Fear
Physical - Be Ready
One of the "by products" of Change is Fear. Fear comes in many forms, in this post I will focus on the fear associated with change.
What is it about change that we fear? There are many aspects of change that could create fear in you.
It could be the loss of control. Where things change those who always want to be in control are often knocked of kilter. When change happens it is difficult to control the environment around you. The more intense the change the more intense the fear often manifests itself. By being Ready for change that loss is often minimized.
Mental - Plan
Another aspect closely tied with control is the unknown nature of the change. In the case of disasters there is often a often a lot of uncertainties involved. Uncertainty in your safety, uncertainty about your health, uncertainty in your future there is a lot of uncertainties. A plan helps to alleviate some of that uncertainty.
Spiritual - Grace
Fear of losing material things or possessions can take a toll on you if you let it. During a disaster it is possible to lose your home, your belongings, you food, your "stuff"; worst of all you could lose friends or family, or others you may care about. Having a spiritual "anchor" in our Lord can hold you during those difficult times.
If you are not ready for change - far can overwhelm you. When fear overwhelms you your ability to think logically or rationally is inhibited. Your prefrontal cortex shuts down and you go into "fight" or "flight" mode.
Fight or Flight is your bodies natural response to fear or danger (aka change). While there may be some circumstances where this may be beneficial they are few and far between. It is far better to have a plan so when changes occur you know what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, and how to get it done. Leaving your security and the security of those you care about to chance - or worse still - a government "savior" is not only foolish; it is dangerous. That isn't a plan that is another disaster waiting to happen.
How to Prepare for Change
First, you must identify what type or types of change that cause you concern. Then you need to prepare yourself and those you care about for the possibilities (now days) inevitability) for change
Whether that change is weather related (disasters), political change, or some other form of change. The most logical and methodical approach is to create an Emergency Readiness Plan. Perceive Change
Starting with your worst "fear" - event that "keeps you awake at night" With that plan in mind:
News: Keep an on the weather to see how the weather will change. Do not become obsessed, just remain cognizant of what is going on.
Watch reliable news sources - as reliable as possible (HINT: it is not CNN, MSNBC or any other "main stream" news channel. FOX is fair, but still have to take it with grain of salt. Observe the events, but don't buy the commentary on what it means or the effects it is biased. Keep an eye out for events that could trigger your Emergency Readiness Plan - aka "signs of the times". It is best to watch or listen to different sources.
Listening to the Radio: I don't "promote" too many news outlets, but I track with Glenn Beck. He often has a descent outlook on events that are taking place and his commentary is often on point. As with all things you still need to use your own discernment.
Ham, CB, SDR (Software Defined Radio): If you are able it would be a good idea to get a radio that you can at least listen to before, during and after the event(s) occur. I recommend at a minimum secure a SDR system. It is fairly inexpensive and offers the ability to monitor multiple stations not only close by, but also around the world.
As the events are happening you can begin getting ready for change. Most of us watch the weather. When we see rain is forecasted we take an umbrella with us. If it is going to be cold and snowy we dress appropriately. You need to do the same when it comes to change.
Embrace Change
Whatever event or events occur it is unlikely we will be able to alter the events or prevent the events that cause the change. This is especially true when it comes to weather regardless of what others may say.
The thing is don't resist the change this causes friction and aggravation - aka "negative energy". Prepare as best you can, but accept changes will occur.
What Can You Do?
Prepare yourself Spiritually, Mentally, and Physically. This involves staying healthy:
Spiritually: "Easy - but difficult" John 3:16
Listen to uplifting or calming music.
Connect with nature
Read the Bible and/or attend a good Bible believing church or group of believers.
Mentally: Hardest to "Prepare"
Pray/Meditate: Prayer/“Meditation can give a deep sense of calm, peace and balance that benefits both your emotional well-being and overall health. ” University of Metaphysical Sciences Blog
Exercise: Reduces depression and anxiety, boosts mood - enhances overall well-being physical exercise releases endorphins which are natural mood elevators.
Learn Skills: Learn the skills necessary to "survive"
Deep dive "The Self-Reliant Soul: The Foundation for Strategic Readiness" Set
Physical: Easiest in some aspects, challenging in others
"Gear & Stuff": Physical is some aspects is the easiest to "accomplish". If you have money or a credit card you can buy all the "stuff" you need or have room to store.
Stock Pile: Physical items alone will not "save" you. I am not saying they aren't helpful or necessary. However, relying on them alone is risky at best.
Exercise: Exercise has double benefits. It helps with your mental health as well as your physical health. Having physical health challenges does not mean you won't survive a disaster or emergency event - far from it. It does mean you will need to pre-plan and include additional bits of information in your Emergency Readiness Plan.
Eat Right: Food is your first line of defense when it comes to your health. Avoid prepossessed foods as much as possible. Avoid processed sugars. The new food pyramid is actually a good place to start.
Preventive Measures - Alternative Medicines: The best health measure is to prevent medical problems if possible. That is not always possible. However, there are alternatives to prescription medications. Identifying them now will put you ahead in the event part of the "change" you are encountering involves reduced or stopping of the supply chain. If/when that happens prescription medications will most likely not be available.
[GL SKYE NOTE: Please don't wait until something happens to find potential alternatives to you medications. If that is not possible I strongly recommend you procure as large a quantity of your medicines as you possibly can.]
Do not Let Fear Control You
Fear is natural: Everyone experiences fear - they key is to not let fear control you. Work to control the reaction that fear causes. Sometimes a pause, and a deep breath can help you retain your calm and composure.
Though=>Emotion=>Reaction leads to shutting down your prefrontal cortex. The more emotional you become the less reasonable you become; the less reasonable you become the better chance to make a bad or even deadly decision.
Core of Calm®
To endure the fear of change you must remain calm and keep your prefrontal cortex engaged. This allows you the ability to rationally and logically process the changes occurring around you. This enable you to make choices that are sound and thought out.
The calmer you are the calmer those around you will be. The "energy" you put out is reflected and noticed by those around you.
Each of us has a "sphere of energy" around us. Those around us are able to "pick up" on that energy. If you are calm and balanced those around you will feel it. Their "energy" will begin to match yours. As more and more people respond to your energy it will spread to your whole group.
Think of your "energy" like the wind, we can't see it, but we can feel it and see it's effects. The same is true when you hold onto your "Core of Calm®".
Conclusion
What you do impacts those around you. You can lead with "Core of Calm®" or with Chaos - the choice is yours. To maintain a Core of Calm®:
